Do not forget that your hard disk is also slotted on the motherboard; the kind of hard disk i.e. either IDE or SATA needs to be considered in regards to the motherboard. It is true that IDE hard disks are slower than SATA but keep in mind that they use less power. This can be translated to a longer battery life. A motherboard with 2 PCI-E 16x, 3PCI, 4 SATA and I IDE slots sounds relatively good.
Other aspects such as several USB 2.0 ports, integrated sound and video are not a must, because they really do not affect the speed of good gaming laptops. When it comes to ports the most vital one is the Integrated LAN which is mainly used while playing online games.
